Pay attention to the change in the periodicity of occupational medical examinations

From 2022, all employees should take a periodic medical examination. Previously the periodicity was biannual for employees aged 18 to 45 and annual for employees under 18 and over 45 years. Currently depending on the degree of risk of the company and the function, periodicity can be annual (regulatory standard 07 - nr 07, subitem 7.5.8, letter b).

Periodic examination is performed often established on the position occupied and risk level of the function. Its purpose is to evaluate the health conditions of the worker and to guide him on risk levels-physical, chemical, biological or ergonomic-to which he may be exposed.

Occupational examination is mandatory for CLT hiring employees. The company needs to perform it in hiring (admission examination), termination (dismissal examination) and annually or bianially (periodic examination), depending on the function.

Why is it necessary to perform occupational exam?

Occupational examinations are usually performed as part of the people management process in companies and are governed by the Occupational Health Medical Control Program - PCMSO.

They serve to evaluate the health of employees before, during and after the completion of the employment contract. They are mandatory during the process of admission, dismissal, change of function and as periodic evaluation (annual or biennial) - according to the type of work performed by the employee.

What the law says

NR-7, or Regulatory Standard No. 7, determines the implementation of the Occupational Health Medical Control Program in all organizations, regardless of the number of employees or areas of expertise. It has as its objectives:

  • Regular occupational health guidelines in companies and institutions;
  • Preserve the physical and mental well-being of employees;
  • exempt the cost employee.

Some exams are mandatory for employees in employment relationships registered in the work card, as indicated in Article 168 of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT).

companies that do not comply with these requirements are likely to have more work accidents, departures and labor processes.
